About ReAL Design
With a strong history of spacial design training and more than 15 years of experience working as a kitchen and bath designer, Ann Lostutter initiated Real Design for Kitchens and Baths in March of 1999.
We are focused on designing spaces that are both aesthetically beautiful and intuitively functional for the people that actually live in the spaces we design. We realize that homes are very personal by their nature and require deliberate and well-crafted solutions in order to meet the needs and desires of the people for whom they have been created. Understanding the dreams of these people is the first step toward designing successful experiences and products.

Here are some of our Frequently Asked Questions about us:

Do you do bathrooms, too?

Yes, and entertainment/fireplace areas, laundry rooms, closets, islands only, and anything else requiring detailed space planning.
| |

How do you charge for your services?

We charge an hourly fee for consulting and design. Unlike designers who work out of showrooms, our income isn't linked to how much stuff you're going to buy, so we're happy designing small spaces or storage units. For a full discussion of our rates, see Services/Rates.

I know I need a new kitchen, but I feel totally clueless. How do I get started?

Do a little legwork to see what's out there. You can visit showrooms and home centers to check out cabinetry, countertops, lighting, appliances, flooring, etc. Look at magazines to see what's "now". You'll probably begin to notice that some things always appeal to you, and other things always seem undesirable. Make a list of things - general and specific - you like and dislike, things you want and don't want in your kitchen or bath. Then talk to us. In our initial discussion we'll begin to understand what your sense of style is, your needs vs. wants, and you'll suddenly begin to get that clue you feel you haven't got right now. See also Real Resources for more help.
